Toronto jogger critically injured after hit by truck

·

ONTARIO - A pedestrian is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a transport truck in the city's northeast end, Friday.

Police told 680News the man, who is in his 20s, suffered serious head injuries.

He was transported to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

The incident happened just before 9 a.m. on Bridletowne Circle, which is in the Warden Avenue and Finch Avenue East area.

Police said the jogger was crossing against a red light when he was hit by the truck at full speed. He was thrown about 100 feet.

Witness recalled hearing a loud screeching noise as the driver tried to brake. Skid marks from the truck's wheels lined the intersection from one end to the other.

Police said the truck driver was shaken up. However, since it was his right of way, he may not face charges.

Warden has been closed in both directions from McNicoll Avenue to Finch for the investigation.
